Hallo zusammen,

das war die Temperatur, die im Typhoon Kammuri/Tisoy in den Philippinen gemessen wurde. Weltrekord!

At 0420Z on Saturday, November 30, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the NOAA-20 satellite detected a cloud-top infrared brightness temperature just west of Kammuri’s center of –109.4°C (–164.9°F).

According to Mark Lander (University of Guam), this appears to be the only cloud-top temperature on record known to exceed by a wide margin the world record reported by Elizabeth Ebert and Greg Holland in 1992 of–102.2°C (–148°F) from Tropical Cyclone Hilda east of Australia in 1990.

Das ist in der Nähe des Äquators an der Obergrenze von Cumiulonimben in 14 bis 17 km Höhe.

Zum alten Rekord: A detailed analysis is made of the development of a region of cold cloud-top temperatures in Tropical Cyclone Hilda (1990) in the Coral Sea off eastern Australia. Observed temperatures of approximately 173 K (−100°C) from two independent satellite sources indicate that the convective turrets penetrated well into the stratosphere to an estimated height of around 19.2 km.

Das ist auch nicht wenig!
